The Government of Nunavut is inviting nominations from interested individuals to serve on its representative seat on the following boards:
Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board (4 year term)
Eeyou Marine Region Planning Commission (3 year term)
Eeyou Marine Region Impact Review Board (initial term is 4 years, then 3 years thereafter)
As Nunavut's Minister responsible for Renewable Resoruces and Wildlife, I must either appoint or nominate one member to represent Nunavut on each of the boards. The Eeyou Marine Region Land Claims Agreement Act was passed in the House of Commons on November 4, 2011. The agreement was signed on July 1, 2010 by the Crees of Eeyou Istchee, as represented by the Grand Council of the Crees, the Government of Nunavut, and Canada.
It covers an area off the Quebec shore in the eastern James Bay and southern Hudson Bay and settles the land and resource rights, including those of Canada and the Crees, over the islands and the marine waters in this area. The Eeyou marine Region includes an overlapping area of interest to both the Crees and the Nunavik Inuit.
If you know an individual form Nunavut who is familiar with Eeyou offshore environmental management issues and who wishes to be considered for any of the three boards, please forward an application and resume clearly indicating which board the individual wishes to be considered.
The deadline for nominations is March 16, 1012, 5:00 pm. Nominations after that time will not be considered.
